Grab a Cup of Coffee…and Your Laptop

Black Friday…a term created by retailers marking the start of the holiday shopping season. It is the Friday after Thanksgiving and a day that some people look forward to while retail employees dread. Thus, the name Black Friday. Before the turkey is digested on Thanksgiving day, there are circulars and advertisements all over - the newspapers, TV and radio all have them from retailers that are touting they have the best deals out there. People will get up early or stay up all night long so they can venture out before dawn to catch the best deals.

For some, Black Friday is a sport. Do you think so? Others think these people are absolutely nuts! However for the bargain shopper this might as well be their Superbowl. They plan for this, create their checklist, have ads in hand and go for a purpose. Some will plan their route carefully so they don’t spend a lot of time backtracking. Starting with the store that opens the earliest, shoppers will hit the stores grabbing the early bird specials and get out. (If they are smart.)

Others will go to look for ideas. While there is nothing wrong with this practice, it is best to stay out of determined shoppers way. Determine shoppers get in and get out. No fiddle-farting around, please.

Often people go in groups. I am wondering if Black Friday shopping “parties” are popular. What about doing ONLINE Black Friday shopping parties? Have some friends over for coffee and breakfast, everyone bring their laptops and search for deals together. You could visit tons of stores in an hour and save on gas and dealing with disgruntled shoppers & employees! Plus, many stores offer free shipping and coupon codes for extra savings.

  1. I forgot to change your address in my Google Reader . . . here you’ve been posting away and I didn’t even realize it!

I only went out shopping on Black Friday one time, a few years ago. Never again! I can’t take the crowds and the lines. I like your idea of an online/laptop party MUCH better!!

  2. I work part-time for a retail store. Black Friday is exciting and a whirlwind day… but the people who line up at 3 am (or earlier) seem kind of crazy to me! I’m expecting this year to be crazier than ever since people are pinching pennies and trying to find the best deals possible.

  3. I love to go! I don’t spend much, really..but go with a girlfriend and really like the challenge of being out early. Its also fun to see everyone I know out and about.
